Department of BioChemistry

Objectives

  Biochemistry is both life science and a chemical science - it explores the chemistry of living organisms and the molecular basis for the changes occurring in living cells. Biochemistry includes many specializations such as Bioorganic chemistry, Analytical Biochemistry, Clinical Biochemistry, Human Physiology, Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Biochemistry and Immunology etc. The biochemist seeks to determine how specific molecules such as proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, vitamins, and hormones function in such processes. In addition, Biochemistry also deals with diagnostics sciences - biochemical investigations in blood and body fluids - a key factor in diagnosis and decision making for the clinicians.
      The Department of Biochemistry at MGR College, Hosur, was established in the academic year 1988-89. The Department offers UG, PG and M.Phil programmes. Biochemistry Department possesses highly qualified and well experienced faculty members involved in teaching programmes fulfilling the requirements of the undergraduate as well as postgraduate students. The Department has two laboratories equipped with sophisticated instrumentation facility. The Alumni of this department are being well-placed in different vital fields including clinical laboratory services and pharmaceuticals and also involved in Biomedical Research and teaching in India and Abroad.

Research and Development

  • Research and development is an integral part of the academic activities of our curriculum. We aim to nurture research culture in the college by promoting research in newly emerging and challenging areas of science and also we encourage the students to undertake the research in newly emerging frontier areas of science. In order to endorse research and development activities, the institute extends its full support to students/ faculty/ staff.The College encourages students, faculty and staff members to participate in National and International Conferences, Training programmes organized by reputed institutes.
