The Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2000. The Department is offering B. Sc., M. Sc., M. Phil., and Ph. D programme in the field of Biotechnology. Besides, the department offers training programmes in Mushroom Cultivation, Sericulture, Vermicompost, Azolla and Spirulina Cultivation Skill Development Program of the Department. Students of our department have bagged 3 Gold medals and secured 27 University Ranks in the Periyar University Examinations over the years.
The Department offers a diverse study program that provides students with a broad range of knowledge. Our skilled faculty members are dedicated to assist our students to sharpen their talents. Our research team carry out outstanding research in Nanotechnology, Microbiology, Biotechnology and Natural Product Chemisty. The Department has received Major Research Project funding (Rs. 23,00,000) from DST-SERB, New Delhi. Department organizes several National level Seminars, Symposium and workshops on regular basis with various fiscal support from DST, ICMR, DBT, UGC, etc. The Department is also having collaboration with various national institutions of importance viz., IISER, Kolkatta, Anna University, CelluGen Biotech Pvt., Ltd etc. The department has core research laboratory facility with sophisticated and advanced instruments like Millipore Central Water Plant, HPLC, PCR, ELIZA Reader, UV-Vis Double Beam Spectrophotometer. The Department has published more than 57 research publications with approximately 693 h-index in SCI journals since 2015 with an total impact factor of 34.72.
