Overview

Established in 2000, the Department of Biotechnology offers B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. programs, including training in Mushroom Cultivation, Sericulture, Vermicompost, Azolla, and Spirulina.

Our students have achieved 5 Gold medals and 39 University Ranks. The diverse study program, led by skilled faculty, covers Nanotechnology, Microbiology, Genetic Engineering, and more.

The Department has published more than 500 research publications with approximately 693 h-index in SCI journals since 2015 with a total impact factor of 189.

Our research team excels in areas like Molecular Biology, Securing a Major Research Project funding of Rs. 23,00,000 from DST-SERB, New Delhi, the Department actively hosts National-level Seminars, Symposiums, and workshops regularly. These events receive financial support from esteemed organizations such as DST, ICMR, DBT, UGC, ensuring the department’s commitment to fostering research and academic excellence.

  • Applied DST SERB grant of Rs 30 Lakhs proposal under the core grant research project in the year of 2022-Under consideration
  • Received Seminar Grants of Rs. 5,50,000 from DST SERB.CSIR, ICMR for the consecutive years 2013, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2020.
  • The department received total funds of Rs.28,00,000.
  • Students in our department have earned 5 gold medals and secured 37 University Ranks in Periyar University Examinations over the years.
